BMU
I saw a friend of
yours the other day,
And they asked what
you were up to
I smiled politely
and said you were away attending BMU.
I told him the
university was in a small town,
So different from
the big city.
No crime, not
gritty.
And you had plenty
of time to expand your mind.
To contemplate the
things you’d done.
To ponder questions
as old as the moon and the sun.
When he asked what
you’d majored in
I told him that’s
where the story begins.
First you’d majored
in marketing, then sales,
Hoping the current
trends would prevail.
But then found the
competition was rough,
And after a long
battle you’d had enough.
You’d even taken a
few semesters off
And we supported
you in that decision.
Some time passed
and you returned to finish your education.
Now criminal
justice is your pursuit as the result of a revelation.
He said when you
returned to the neighborhood to give him a call
But I informed him
you would not be back before the fall.
I hope that once
your courses are through,
May you never return to Black Man U.
