My Community
It's where I live
Where I grow
Where I dream of my
Destiny
Destiny To Be
To be all that I
can be
But I'm not
enlisting in your army
To fight to make
unknown people free
Free in the name of
democracy
What about me?
Am I free or am I
living in captivity?
Am I free to walk
the streets in safety with no worries?
Can our children
play in harmony?
With no threat of
guy play in schoolyards
Or is being
recruited in gangs in their cards?
Is that their
destiny?
To be
To be all that they
can be
But we're not
enlisting in your army
To save the
children of the world from a life of poverty
But who's saving
me?
From healthcare
that doesn't aid
From an education
system that doesn't want to educate me
They keep cutting
back and cutting back and cutting back
The cutbacks will
leave us with no books to read
They'll be no
teachers to teach
To teach me to
lead, to soar, to achieve, to aspire
To be
To be all that I
can be
But I'm not
enlisting in your army
To fight half way
around the world
My fight is here
My fight is now
It's where I live
It's where I grow
It’s in my
community
Where my people and
me are fighting to be free
Free to control our
own destinies
Free to be all that
we can be.
