Since articles are written 4-6 months before publication, we avoid trying to cover immediate events, as such pieces are almost certain to be out of date by the time they appear.   ColorLines editors often solicit articles on specific topics, but also encourage activists, writers, and artists to independently submit proposals, manuscripts, photography and art work for consideration. Authors should submit proposals, queries, and articles well in advance of any projected publication date. The editorial deadline for copy is February 1, and every three months thereafter (e.g. May 1, August 1, November 1).

Article queries, with proposal, contents, and writing samples, are strongly encouraged.
